BETT 2020: The Reward for an Amazing Experience

Last week, from 22-25 January, Genially had the pleasure of exhibiting at the 2020 BETT Show, the largest international EdTech event in the world. All of the biggest names in educational technology were present, and we are proud to have been among them. Our stand was located within the Spain Pavilion, alongside other promising Spanish companies, and we would like to thank ICEX for their support in allowing EdTech from Spain to be recognized internationally. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Don Álvaro Nadal, the ex-minister of Energy, Tourism, and Digital Agenda of Spain to the Genially booth.

During the Bett show, we got to introduce Genially to a lot of people that were interested in knowing more about the tool, we met lots of current users who stopped by to say hi and ask questions, and we had the opportunity to discuss exciting collaborations and partnerships with other companies.

Check out this video to see how we experienced Bett and keep reading to find out more.

A global community that doesn’t stop growing

One of the most exciting things about Bett, aside from introducing Genially to a whole new group of educators, was being able to meet and chat face-to-face with current users. We had members of our amazing community from all over the world stop by to say hello, find out about new features we have been rolling out, and ask for advice on how they can take their creations to the next level.

Here at Genially, we are a highly-motivated team excited to see how quickly we are growing. Having the opportunity to attend events like Bett, and hearing directly from users about how much they love the tool and how it has changed the way they create content (both educators and corporate executives alike), gave us the priceless opportunity to really see and feel the impact that we are having.

Some of our super Genially users we had the pleasure of sharing our time with include: Kathi Kersznowski and Gloria Enrique who gave a demo to a crowd of visitors and shared why they love the tool so much. Their enthusiasm was contagious! Thank you!

Becky Keene, who you might remember from our webinar on integration came by the stand to tell us more about her company i2e, a Microsoft Global Training Partner, as well as about how she incorporates Genially into her Microsoft tools training sessions. Thank you for all of your ideas and suggestions, Becky!

We met our friends from Wakelet in-person (finally!) and made new friends from amazing companies like Flipgrid, MergeVR, and Canvas LMS, with whom we are looking forward to working together in the future. We cannot wait to show you all what is to come!

Another fun moment that we experienced at Bett was our #demoswap with EdModo. This was an amazing opportunity for both of us in which Genially presented a demo of functionalities at the EdModo booth, and EdModo presented their platform at our booth. Not only did it allow a different audience to learn about both tools, but it strengthened the new friendships we made with each other and led to a boom of brainstorming for future collaborations, so be on the lookout for that!

We also had Alice Keeler come by to say hello and dive deeper together into the functionalities of Genially and new features we have released. She also graciously shared ideas and tips for us related to our growth in the United States. Thank you, Alice!

As you probably already know, Genially has an integration with both Microsoft Teams and OneNote which allows you to easily share your creations directly from Genially. We were excited and proud to see that members of the Microsoft for Education team were showing how to share geniallys from the Microsoft Hub, the biggest stand at Bett 2020.

Speaking of Microsoft Partners, the Genially team was also invited to an exclusive reception with other partners at the Microsoft flagship store in Oxford Circle during our week in London. The current integrations, plus having the opportunity to meet members of the Microsoft team in-person, opened the doors for discussing the future growth of our partnership and everything we have to look forward to this year (and beyond!).

Saving the proverbial “best for last”, the Bett Show 2020 was home to this year’s final round of the Global EdTech Startup Awards in which Genially was one of 19 finalists to make it this far. Read on to learn more about how we experienced this event.

Genially named best start-up of the future

The Global EdTech Startup Awards (GESAwards) is an international competition that identifies, showcases, and recognizes the world’s most promising EdTech startups.

Throughout the year, the GESAwards considers certain criteria on which the startups are judged, including (among others) addressing a clear pain point related to the market, having outstanding user experience, and operating within a sustainable business model. We would like to thank SEK Lab, as one of the organizers of the GESAwards, for bringing Spain into these awards last year.

As the winner for Spain, Genially was one of 19 semi-finalists who had the opportunity to pitch in front of a large audience before waiting for the judging panel and the audience to vote on the winner. We loved hearing the pitches from the other startups, each trying to use innovation to tackle current issues within educational technology. Félix López Capel, Director of SEK Lab EdTech Accelerator, and one of the GESA judges, was also present in London cheering us on!

The energy and nerves were palpable in the air as we awaited the results. The first winners that were announced were the winners of the popular vote, from the international crowd who had watched the pitches just before. We were so excited to see that the bar for Genially was the highest and we were named the winners of the popular vote.

The next winners that were announced were the Innovation Awards, the runner-up, and finally the winner of the GESAwards. When Genially was announced as the winner, the first reaction leaned more towards shock. Following the realization, we ran up to collect the prize, take pictures with all the winners and finalists, and meet the people who had come to watch the awards show. The evening passed a bit in a blur, as we were calling and messaging the rest of the team congratulating each other on the accomplishment.

An unforgettable experience

Winning the GESAwards was yet another moment during our 4 days at BETT in which we could feel the positivity, energy and love for Genially that people within our community feel.

While I have felt extremely proud to be a member of the Genially team since the day I started, I left London bursting with pride, excitement, and optimism at our future and everything we have to look forward to. From the whole team at Genially, we cannot wait to see what is next for us and hope that you will continue to join us on this journey.

Thank you and best wishes from the whole team at Genially!
